Azad Kashmir Govt withdraws Presidential Ordinance after successful negotiations. The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has officially withdrawn the controversial presidential ordinance that imposed restrictions on rallies and protests, following successful negotiations with the Joint Public Action Committee (JKJAAC). A formal notification confirming the withdrawal of the ordinance has been issued by the government.
This decision came after intense discussions between the government and the JKJAAC, which had been leading protests against the ordinance. The Public Action Committee has announced an end to their protests, acknowledging the government’s action in rescinding the ordinance.
In a statement, the Public Action Committee confirmed the release of all detainees who had been arrested during recent demonstrations. Additionally, the employment of Sohaib Arif, who had been impacted by the ordinance, has been reinstated. The government has also committed to providing compensation to individuals injured during clashes that erupted in response to the ordinance.
The withdrawal of the ordinance follows direct intervention from the President of Azad Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, who had previously instructed the government to promptly repeal the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Ordinance. Chaudhry also wrote a letter to Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar Haq, urging immediate action, which led to the swift reversal of the controversial measure.
The move comes after the Public Action Committee initiated a long march in protest when negotiations with a government-appointed ministers’ committee failed to resolve the issue. With the repeal of the ordinance, normalcy has returned to the region, and the protests have officially ended.
