Health Minister acknowledges the strain on New Delhi hospitals, citing bed shortages and water scarcity.

NEW DELHI: The Indian capital of New Delhi grapples with unprecedented heat wave conditions, shattering previous records and claiming 52 lives in just two days, according to Indian media reports. Tragically, an additional 192 homeless individuals succumbed to the sweltering temperatures between June 11 and 19.

Indian media reveals that over 40,000 cases of heat stroke were reported across the country this summer, with at least 110 confirmed deaths from March 1 to June 18. The Meteorological Department warns of temperatures soaring well above normal levels this month, with New Delhi experiencing its hottest night in over five decades.

While grappling with the heat wave, India faces the paradoxical challenge of flooding in some areas due to heavy rains. Northern regions bear the brunt of a prolonged heat wave, with temperatures soaring to a staggering 50 degrees Celsius.

Health Minister acknowledges the strain on New Delhi hospitals, citing bed shortages and water scarcity. Urgent directives have been issued to federal and state institutions to address these pressing concerns. Meanwhile, non-governmental organizations report adverse effects on wildlife, with incidents of birds falling from the sky due to extreme heat.

As India battles this multifaceted crisis, urgent action is imperative to mitigate the impact on vulnerable populations and wildlife alike. Authorities are urged to prioritize relief efforts to address both the immediate health needs of citizens and the long-term implications of the ongoing heat wave and flooding.
