Israeli airstrikes kill nine in Yemen, targets Houthi Military sites. Israeli airstrikes on Yemen early Thursday resulted in the deaths of nine people, according to Al Masirah TV, a news outlet linked to the Houthi movement. Seven individuals were killed in a strike on the port of Salif, while the remaining victims were reported dead following two attacks on the Ras Issa oil facility in Yemen’s western Hodeidah province.
The strikes also targeted two central power stations situated to the south and north of the Yemeni capital, Sanaa. The Israeli military confirmed conducting precise strikes on Houthi military targets, including key ports and energy infrastructure in Sanaa, which it said were used by Houthi forces for military purposes.
Earlier in the day, the Israeli military reported intercepting a missile launched from Yemen. The Houthis, who have been actively engaging in military actions in solidarity with Palestinians since the conflict between Hamas and Israel erupted, have previously targeted international shipping in the region.
US & Arab mediators push for agreement between Israel and Hamas
The United States, with the help of Arab mediators, is working to finalize an agreement between Israel and Hamas to end the 14-month conflict in Gaza. The effort aims for a ceasefire and a swap of hostages for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel. Mediators report narrowing differences on most clauses, though Israel’s conditions were reportedly rejected by Hamas.
On Wednesday, Israeli airstrikes killed at least 20 Palestinians, including 10 in Beit Lahiya and 10 in Jabalia. The ongoing Israeli campaign in Gaza has killed over 45,000 Palestinians and devastated much of the region. The US, Egypt, and Qatar are intensifying talks as President Biden’s term nears its end.
