iPhone 17 Pro, Pro Max to feature major camera upgrades. According to a recent leak from Digital Chat Station in China, Apple plans to equip the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max with an upgraded camera system.
Both models will reportedly share the same camera setup, with three rear cameras and a front-facing camera. The selfie camera will get an upgrade to a 24MP sensor for more detail.
Rear camera setup
Apple will include a 48MP main sensor, a 48MP ultra-wide lens, and a 48MP periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom on the back. While the main sensor may be slightly smaller than the iPhone 16 Pro models, the periscope telephoto lens will offer higher resolution, potentially increasing zoom capabilities and image sharpness.
These updates suggest that Apple will focus on improving camera performance rather than introducing a major overhaul.
Design Updates
Prototypes of the iPhone 17 Pro models currently feature a horizontal camera island on the rear, confirming earlier rumors. However, sources suggest that Apple has not yet finalized the design and will make a decision by March.
That’s why there have been conflicting reports about the iPhone 17’s camera design. Older leaks have suggested a camera visor similar to the Google Pixel series (as seen below), but new reports suggest otherwise.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max at its September launch event. While the hardware changes may be subtle, Apple is expected to highlight both hardware and software developments during the presentation.
