COAS Ge Asim Munir praises shooting excellence at Pakistan Army Rifle Association Meet. Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir hailed marksmanship as the “hallmark of a professional soldier” during the closing ceremony of the Pakistan Army Rifle Association’s central meet at the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) in Jhelum on Thursday.
Speaking to the participants, General Munir emphasized the importance of proficiency in shooting, stating that it should remain a core focus of basic military training. He commended the participants for their “excellent” standards of marksmanship, underscoring the event’s significance in refining military skills.
The mega-shooting competition, which ran from October 14 to November 28, 2024, saw over 2,000 participants, including members from the army, navy, air force, civil armed forces, and civilians. Participants came from various teams, including the Rangers from Sindh and Punjab, as well as from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and the Federal Rifle Association.
During the ceremony, COAS Munir and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu presented trophies and medals to the top performers in each category. The Pakistan Army emerged victorious in three inter-services contests, including the CJCSC, COAS, and CNS matches, while the Pakistan Air Force won the CAS contest. The Army also secured the overall Championship Trophy.
Additional accolades included the FTR Team Trophy, awarded to the Pakistan Army led by Lieutenant General Ahsan Gulrez, and the President’s Cup National Challenge Match Trophy, won by Naik Waseem Ahmed Khan of the Pakistan Army. The Prime Minister ‘Skills at Arms’ Big Bore National Challenge was claimed by the Pakistan Air Force, and the Azad Kashmir Regiment took first place in the para-firing matches (infantry squad).
Sepoy Aftab Ahmed of the Punjab Regiment received the prestigious ‘Master at Arms’ Trophy, the highest military shooting honor, while Lance Dafadar Muhammad Imran and Havaldar Fateh Ullah Khan were recognized for their performance in the Best Shot Match Group 2 and Group 3.
The event highlighted the excellence of Pakistan’s armed forces in marksmanship and showcased their commitment to maintaining high standards of military readiness.
