Mushaal condemns India’s “Sham Elections,” vows to continue freedom struggle. Mushaal Hussain Mullick, wife of incarcerated Hurriyat leader Mohammad Yasin Malik, has strongly criticized the recent elections held in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), labeling them a sham intended to legitimize India’s ongoing occupation.
Speaking at a seminar titled “Farcical Elections in IIOJK and the Way Forward,” organized by the Islamabad High Court Bar Association, Mullick urged the international community to recognize the gravity of the situation and take action against India’s imperialistic policies.
Mullick emphasized that the elections are a mere facade, designed to mislead the world into believing that democracy thrives in a region characterized by military presence and suppression of dissent. She pointed out that India’s long-standing disregard for United Nations resolutions, which advocate for a fair plebiscite allowing Kashmiris to determine their own future, is a significant barrier to peace.
Highlighting recent changes in domicile laws and electoral regulations, Mullick accused the Indian government of manipulating the demographic landscape of Kashmir. She noted that these alterations have granted temporary voting rights to non-resident Hindus, further eroding the political autonomy of the Kashmiri people.

“The current climate of fear, exacerbated by the incarceration of senior Hurriyat leaders like my husband, renders these elections a charade,” Mullick stated. “India’s strategy is to install puppets in power rather than empower the Kashmiri populace.”
Calling on global powers to acknowledge the reality that elections cannot substitute for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, Mullick demanded a UN-supervised plebiscite to resolve the Kashmir dispute. She vowed that the struggle for freedom would persist, stating, “We will not rest until we break the shackles of Indian oppression.”
The seminar aimed to galvanize support for the Kashmiri cause and raise awareness about the ongoing human rights violations in the region. Mullick’s passionate address resonated with attendees, calling for collective action to support the Kashmiri people’s just struggle for freedom and self-determination.
