After recent attack, Tehran said US must face consequences for criminal attack. Iranian Foreign Minister issued forceful condemnation of the United States following targeted airstrikes on its nuclear facilities, calling the move a “grave violation” of international law and a direct attack on its sovereignty.
Seyed Abbas Araghchi termed attack as an “unlawful and dangerous escalation,” claiming the sites struck were peaceful and operated under international oversight.
“This reckless aggression by the United States has breached the United Nations Charter, the rules of international law, and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty,” Araghchi said during a press briefing in Tehran. “The consequences will be far-reaching, and Washington must be held accountable for this criminal act.”
The strikes, which hit Iran’s Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities, were confirmed by the US as part of what President Donald Trump called a precision mission aimed at disrupting Iran’s nuclear capabilities. American officials claimed bunker-buster bombs were used against deeply buried targets.
Foreign Minister Araghchi made it clear that Iran would not remain passive in the face of the attacks. He emphasized that the Islamic Republic retains the right to respond under Article 51 of the UN Charter, which recognizes a nation’s right to self-defense.
“Iran reserves all options to protect its national interests,” Araghchi declared. “Our response will be in accordance with international law, and we will act decisively to defend our people, our territory, and our dignity.”
The US strikes follow more than a week of hostilities between Iran and Israel, which began after Israeli forces launched a surprise attack on Iranian military and nuclear sites on June 13. Iran responded with drone and missile salvos, triggering widespread fears of a regional war.
The US had been engaged in nuclear negotiations with Tehran until recently, but those talks appear to have collapsed in the wake of escalating military action.While there has yet to be an official response from major global powers, the United Nations is expected to convene an emergency session in the coming days. Regional analysts warn that further retaliation by Iran could lead to a broader military confrontation across the Middle East.
