Islamabad to Pilot Digital Payments in Key Areas, Sets National Standard
Islamabad Set to Become Pakistan’s First Fully Digital City. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has ambitious plans to change Islamabad into Pakistan’s first fully digital city. This means cashless transactions, futuristic traffic control, and high-speed internet across the city.
At a recent meeting Sunday, chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, CDA discussed a tech-based infrastructure, involving drone surveillance, AI-based congestion analysis, and digital monitoring of speed to streamline traffic flow.
To boost a cashless economy, CDA also plans to promote QR-code payments at businesses, restaurants, and shops with incentives for registering with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Blue Area, Food Street, and Parking Plaza will be piloting the code payments. CDA’s one-window operations are completely digitized already, with payments made online. Chairman Randhawa said a digitized Islamabad would set a national standard for other cities, citing the virtues of cashless cultures, such as more transparency and less corruption.
This strategy is part of Islamabad’s advancement in digital transformation, also discussed at the meeting.
