Iran and Israel back-and-forth attacks has risen the tensions in the already volatile region to unprecedented levels.
Netanyahu lashes out at Iran, threatens to strike at “any time”. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lashed out at Iran, warning the Middle Eastern country that his country has the ‘capability’ to target any location within Iran.
Netanyahu brazenly stated that Israel’s primary objective was to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, despite many experts asserting Israel possessed them, as well, albeit undeclared.
Israel considers Iran nuclear programme a threat to its existence. Netanyahu described Iran acquiring nuclear weapons as a ‘threat’ to regional and global security, despite having attacked several sovereign states itself with no consequences.
“We will not allow Iran to obtain nuclear capabilities”, Netanyahu thundered. Israel has stated several times in past that it was committed to countering what it claims as an existential threat to Israel’s existence.
In response, a senior aide to the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Mohammad Mohammadi, declared that the Iranian military would resolutely respond to any Israeli attack on Iranian facilities.
Iran and Israel back-and-forth attacks has risen the tensions in the already volatile region to unprecedented levels. Iran attacked twice, the latest in October when it sent over a 100 ballistic missiles towards Israel.
Israel then launched a surprise attack weeks later that targeted Iran’s military and nuclear sights. It also striked directly into Tehran where Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh, was staying for the funeral of late Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi in July 31.
Israel also targeted Iranian targets in Syria in an aim to disrupt the transfer of advanced weaponry to Hezbollah and to prevent Iranian influence near its ‘borders’.
Netanyahu has threatened that it would do anything ‘necessary’ to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear capability. It has in past targeted its nuclear scientists.
