Gmail is getting AI-powered smart replies: Details inside. Google announced a host of exciting AI features for its apps back during its I/O developer conference held this year in May. One of these features is finally rolling out to the public and it should make email replies faster and easier.
Google is rolling out Gemini-powered contextual smart replies for Gmail on both Android and iOS, something users have been waiting for. As the name says, this feature will suggest replies to your emails after reading into the context of your conversations, enabling more ease of use and convenience.
Gmail already supported smart replies since 2017, but these were highly limited, and did not understand the context very well. This new upgrade promises to deliver more nuanced and situation-specific automated responses.
The feature will show users a carousel of three distinct smart replies while responding to an email. These options will be generated based on the entire email thread, offering varying tones to suit different communication styles. Users can preview the content of each suggested response by long-pressing on it. Users can then tap on a suggested reply to add it to the email. It will also include an appropriate greeting and closing.
However, before sending a reply, users can make any necessary adjustments to the generated text, ensuring the final message aligns perfectly with their intentions.
