As per the details, in a recent statement, CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized the comprehensive approach of the program, highlighting that rural areas will be included in the large-scale sanitation efforts for the first time.

The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of adopting proper waste disposal practices and advocated avoiding the use of plastic, which is a major contributor to pollution. In March, Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique pledged to introduce innovative sanitation models as part of the Suthra Punjab programme. She reiterated the government’s commitment to use modern technology and adhere to international standards in waste disposal. Each district administration has been tasked with establishing proper waste dumping sites to facilitate efficient waste management.
With a population of over 127 million, Punjab generates around 57,500 tonnes of waste per day. However, only 18,438 tonnes are disposed of properly, leaving a significant daily backlog of around 49,000 tonnes. Minister Zeeshan Rafique highlighted the urgent need to address this growing problem, particularly in Lahore, where significant disposal efforts have been undertaken over the past month.
