ISLAMABAD: Pakistan‘s leading paint company ‘Diamond Paints’ has been fined Rs 50 lakh for deceptive marketing to protect consumers, ensure fair competition and encourage ethical behaviour.
As per the details, the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has fined Diamond Paint Industries (Pvt) Ltd for violating Section 10 of the Competition Act, 2010 following a complaint filed by Nippon Paint Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd.
Diamond Paint’s TV commercials were said to be incomplete. CCP’s investigation found that although Diamond Paint included a disclaimer on its packaging and shade cards, it did not disclose the presence and value of redeemable tokens in its TV ads.
The CCP said the partial disclosure misled consumers about the true value and benefits of the product. CCP’s Paint Order 2012 mandates that full information about tokens be provided, and failure to do so violates Section 10(2)(b) of the Act. A recent industry study was conducted to ensure compliance with this order.

CCP highlighted that complete transparency in advertising is crucial for consumers to make informed choices. The Commission concluded that Diamond Paint’s failure to provide complete information violated both the 2012 Guidelines and Section 10 of the CCP Act.
The development comes just weeks after a leading soap maker was fined for deceptive marketing in television advertisements.
