NEPRA Raises Electricity Tariff by Rs 4.56 per Unit, Additional Charges Imposed for December 2023 Fuel Adjustment
NEPRA jacks up electricity tariff. In a recent development, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) announced an increase in electricity tariff by Rs 4.56 per unit. This decision, aimed at fuel adjustment charges for December 2023, was conveyed through a notification issued on Saturday.
According to the notification, electricity consumers will see additional charges in their February 2024 bills due to this tariff adjustment. However, it was clarified that Lifeline consumers will not be affected by this increase.
The rise in electricity tariff is expected to impose an additional burden of Rs 39.8 billion on power consumers.
This comes in the wake of NEPRA’s previous decision on January 31, wherein the electricity tariff was increased by Rs 5.63 per unit for the month of December 2023. The approval of this hike, sought by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), is projected to add Rs 49 billion to the overall burden on power consumers.
