Sonam Kapoor reveals morning ritual, skincare routine and diet for moms-to-be. Sonam Kapoor has spilled some healthy secrets she learnt during her pregnancy journey. The actress, who welcomed her son Vayu with husband Anand Ahuja last month, took to Instagram Stories to share her pregnancy diet, and her skincare ritual and busted a major myth surrounding food.
The actress first wrote about how a mom-to-be should maintain oral health. “Gums and teeth get super sensitive during pregnancy even though I dread going to the dentist I did two rounds. Also do oil pulling every morning,” she wrote.
She added that she uses a combination of sesame oil, coconut oil and olive oil. “Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic practice that involves swishing oil in your mouth to remove bacteria and promote oral hygiene,” she wrote.

Sonam shared that pigmentation is quite common during pregnancy and one must not skip sunscreen at all costs.

A major myth around diet for pregnant women is that Sonam busted deals with the number of calories one should have.

“It’s a myth when people say eat for two! Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Please be sensible while eating if you’re carrying a single baby you need only 350 calories more. Also, I’ve done yoga and Pilates through my pregnancy. It isn’t dangerous to move. Especially if you’ve been active before,” she wrote.

About prenatal foods, Sonam listed vegetables, fruits, a high-protein diet and water being a part of her diet.
Vegetables: carrots, sweet potatoes, cooked greens, spinach, pumpkin, tomatoes and red sweet peppers (for vitamin A and potassium).
Fruits: Cantaloupe, honeydew, mangoes, prunes, bananas, apricots, oranges and red or pink grapefruit (for potassium).
Dairy: Fat-free or low-fat yoghurt, oat milk, soy milk, coconut milk. buttermilk, paneer (cottage cheese), adding that she is lactose intolerant.
Grains: ready-to-eat cereals/cooked cereals (for iron and folic acid).
Proteins: Beans, dal and peas; nuts and seeds; chicken, lamb, salmon, trout, herring, sardines and pollock etc.
And one should not forget water. “Liquids are the most important — water, water, water,” she wrote.

What to avoid? Sonam shared that a pregnant woman should stay away from alcohol, smoking and limit caffeine intake. “Avoid alcohol and smoking. Avoid caffeine, girls unfortuntely chocolate contains caffeine. Limit coffee and chocolate intake,” she wrote.

Sonam further wrote about avoiding raw food. “It’s important to source clean organic produce (avoid exposure to pesticides) and to cook it well. Avoid anything raw during pregnancy. This includes raw meat, fish, and salads. The worst thing is to get a bad tummy prenatally it can be dangerous for your baby’s well-being. Avoid anything unpasteurised (dairy or juice),” she wrote.
Folic acid, iron, calcium, vitamin D, choline, omega-3 fatty acids, B vitamins and vitamin C are great supplements which are essentials for a mom-to-be.
Besides this, Sonam wrote that one experiences constipation often. “I also took fibre supplements and had Ayurvedic Baladi churan made with almond milk, gur (jaggery) every evening,” she added.
To end with, her morning ritual was always ghee, warm water and lemon.

“Every morning I had a big tablespoon of ghee followed by warm water and lemon,” she wrote.
