PTA Warns Public Against Fake WhatsApp Messages & Scam Links

PTA urged the public not to click any unknown links or respond to these deceptive messages.

PTA has issued an urgent advisory warning users about fake WhatsApp messages that may lead to hacking. These messages impersonate the official WhatsApp account and include the app’s logo and a clickable link. The announcement came after PTA took hold of 16,000 illegal SIMs in Punjab.

Users reported receiving these suspicious texts from both local and international numbers recently.

PTA urged the public not to click any unknown links or respond to these deceptive messages. Many of these fake alerts falsely claim account closure or verification is needed immediately. PTA confirmed that these messages are part of a large-scale phishing campaign across Pakistan. These malicious links can steal personal data or give hackers access to your WhatsApp account.

PTA advised users to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with alarming or urgent-sounding messages. The public should delete such messages and avoid clicking on any unofficial or suspicious links. The authority also reminded users that WhatsApp never asks for sensitive information or unofficial verifications.

PTA encouraged users to report these scams to help curb the spread of digital fraud.

This warning follows rising cybercrime cases and growing concerns about digital privacy in Pakistan.
