Supreme Court Takes Suo Motu Notice of Islamabad High Court Judges’ Letter. The Supreme Court of Pakistan has taken suo motu notice of the matter concerning the letter written by judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

In response, a special bench comprising all available judges of the Principal Seat of Islamabad, including Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa, has been formed. The seven-member bench includes Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Masood Jahangir, Justice Jamal Mandokhel, and Justice Naheem Akhtar Afghan.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the case related to the judges’ letter from the Islamabad High Court on Wednesday.

It is pertinent to mention that a few days ago, six judges of the Islamabad High Court had raised concerns about judicial interference in a letter addressed to the Supreme Judicial Council.

In the letter, the judges urged the Supreme Judicial Council to investigate the conduct of Justice (Retired) Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui thoroughly. They expressed full support for the investigation into the allegations against him and questioned who was trying to undermine judicial independence if there was any interference.

Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, had previously expressed readiness to form a commission after meeting with Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa in the Supreme Court. Subsequently, approval was granted to form a commission consisting of retired Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani during a federal cabinet meeting.
