Tough BBL Debut for Shaheen Afridi & Rizwan. Pakistan left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi had to face tough times at the start of his BBL journey in Australia in the Big Bash League (BBL) match played in Geelong.

In the match between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Renegades, the umpires removed Shaheen from the bowling attack for two dangerous full toss no-balls in the same over, after which Brisbane Heat captain Nathan McSweeney called Shaheen back to bowl in the 18th over, where Oliver Peck hit a six at deep mid-wicket in the very beginning.

Shaheen then tried to hit a yorker in reply, but he repeatedly failed to maintain his line and length. Renegades got one run on a low full toss, after which a waist-high full toss no-ball was declared. On this no-ball, Tim Seifert completed his fastest century by scoring 2 runs while playing a shot towards long-on.

Although Shaheen bowled a brilliant yorker on the free hit, another dangerous full toss was bowled on the very next ball which was also declared a no-ball. The ball went out of both the batsman and wicketkeeper Jimmy Pearson and Renegades scored 2 more runs as byes.

After 2 waist-high no-balls in a single over, the umpires intervened and removed Shaheen from bowling. Thus, his BBL debut innings came to a disappointing end.

Shaheen Shah Afridi conceded 43 runs in just 2.4 overs, which was quite disappointing for the first overseas pick in the BBL 15 draft by Brisbane Heat.

Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan, who made his debut for Melbourne Renegades in the same match, also failed to impress and scored only 4 runs.

The BBL has been a tough start for Pakistani players overall. Before the failures of Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi, Babar Azam also failed to show a good performance in his BBL debut match on Sunday.

Representing the Sydney Sixers, Babar Azam was dismissed for just 2 runs against the Perth Scorchers.

It is pertinent to mention that earlier in August 2025, Shaheen Afridi broke the ODI record as the best wicket-taker in history.
