Punjab Govt Issues Rs. 42 Billion for Affordable Housing Initiative. In a major step toward addressing the province’s housing challenges and promoting social welfare, the Punjab government has allocated Rs. 42.013 billion under its flagship housing initiative, ‘Apni Chat Apna Ghar’.
This marks the largest provincial investment in interest-free housing assistance in Punjab’s history.
CM Punjab Housing Scheme 2025
The funds were released through the Annual Development Program 2025-26 and have been transferred to the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) to expand the initiative under the Urban Development Sector.
The allocation follows a proposal by the Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Department (HUD&PHED), which highlighted rising demand and growing impact.
Launched in August 2024, the scheme provides interest-free loans of up to Rs. 1.5 million to land-owning individuals for constructing their own homes.
Scheme Progress and Impact
- Over 51,900 families have benefited so far.
- 6,160 housing units have been completed.
- Another 45,163 units are currently under construction across Punjab.
Government’s Commitment
During a high-level review meeting, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed officials to accelerate loan processing and application approvals, ensuring that assistance reaches eligible families without delay.
“This initiative goes beyond building houses – it is about restoring dignity and providing stability to those who have been living in precarious conditions for a long time,”
— Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz
She added that each house constructed reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive development, in line with the vision of Quaid Nawaz Sharif.
Inclusive and Transparent System
Secretary Housing Noorul Amin Mengal briefed the meeting on ongoing efforts to streamline and digitalize the application process. He emphasized that:
- There are no geographic restrictions—eligible individuals from any part of Punjab can apply.
- The scheme targets low-income citizens who previously lacked access to financial services—such as daily wage earners, widows, gardeners, and shopkeepers.
Looking Ahead
To date, over Rs. 60.5 billion has been disbursed through the program. With the fresh release of Rs. 42 billion, the initiative is expected to significantly expand its reach and impact in the coming months.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz described the project as “a new beginning” for underserved communities:
“When a poor family finally gets a house of its own, it is not just a personal victory – it is the state fulfilling its duty. Politics now means service, not slogans.”
As ‘Apni Chat Apna Ghar’ gains momentum, it is quickly becoming a symbol of hope and progress, helping thousands achieve the dream of home ownership and long-term financial stability.
