In a landmark effort to bridge Pakistan’s digital divide, the Punjab Skills Development Fund (PSDF) has distributed 200 desktop computers to educated rural women. This initiative, part of the new “Mein Digital – Empowering Rural Women Through IT” program, aims to give women the tools they need to succeed online. Notably, the PSDF Distributes 200 Desktops to Educated Rural Women in Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and Bahawalpur. Each desktop comes with an internet connection to ensure immediate access.
Importantly, the distribution falls under the Chief Minister’s Skilled Punjab Initiative. It turns Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s promise of empowering women into real action. All beneficiaries hold at least sixteen years of formal education. They were selected through a fair, merit-based test to ensure equal opportunity.
Moreover, PSDF CEO Ahmed Khan stressed that providing hardware upfront removes cultural and mobility barriers. It allows women to begin their six-month online training without delay. “By giving these desktops from day one, we turn technology into an enabler instead of an obstacle,” he said.
Meanwhile, the training curriculum adds real value. Developed in partnership with FAST, NUST, and industry experts, it covers computer literacy, English for online work, digital marketing, and tools like Canva. As a result, these women gain practical, market-ready skills.
Additionally, Mirza Akbar Hussain, Head of Marketing & Communications, highlighted the wider benefit. “These desktops will help rural women promote local products online. Therefore, they will boost household incomes and make villages more resilient,” he explained. As more women earn from home, entire communities will feel the positive change.

Looking ahead, PSDF plans to roll out this model in every district of Punjab. By doing so, they hope to train 3,000 rural women and create a new generation of digital entrepreneurs. With the first batch already learning, Mein Digital proves that targeted investments in technology and training can unlock Pakistan’s hidden talent.
Ultimately, the PSDF Distributed 200 Desktops to Educated Rural Women program shows what real change looks like. It demonstrates how public vision, trusted partners, and community support can come together to transform lives.
