Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) ranked as the top varsity in the world followed by Imperial College London (UK) at second place.
QS Rankings 2025: No Pakistani University in Top 350 Varsities Globally. Education, among other factors, plays a central role in a country’s progress and development and reflects its trajectory towards it, however, the latest statistics issued by the global university ranking organisation QS (QS) paints a rather grim picture for Pakistan.
According to the ranking not a single university in Pakistan could make it to the top 350 universities in the world, but two federal universities, Quaid-e-Azam University (354) and the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), have succeeded in making it to the top 371.
The country’s largest university, the University of Karachi, has managed to make it to the top 1,001 universities, but no other university from Sindh has been able to make it to the top 1,500 universities.
Other notable Pakistani universities in the rankings include Punjab University (542), Lahore University of Management Sciences (555), and the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (654).
COMSATS University, Islamabad 664, Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences 721, UET Lahore at 801, University of Peshawar at 901, Lahore University at 951, Aga Khan University and University of Karachi at 1001, Bahauddin Zakaria University, International Islamic University, Rifah International University and University of Management and Technology at 1,201 while Islamia University of Bahawalpur is ranked at 1,401.
In the 2025 South Asian rankings, the University of Karachi ranked 58th, while Aga Khan University ranked 62nd and IBA Karachi ranked 70th, Iqra University ranked 110th, IBA Sukkur ranked 120th, NED University ranked 131st, Dow University of Health Sciences ranked 140th, Mehran Engineering University Jamshoro ranked 168th, Ziauddin University ranked 240th, Sindh University Jamshoro ranked 263rd and the University of Balochistan ranked 278th.

The list also includes Stanford University (US) ranked 3rd, University of Oxford (UK) ranked 4th, Harvard University (US) ranked 5th, Cambridge University (UK) ranked sixth, ETH Zurich (SZ) ranked 7th, National University of Singapore (SZ) ranked 8th, UCL London (UCL) ranked ninth and California Institute of Technology (US) ranked 10th.
