ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is celebrating Eid-ul-Adha 2025 with full religious zeal and fervor, with millions of Muslims offering special prayers and sacrificing animals to commemorate the historic Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).
The day started with Eid prayers in mosques, Eidgahs, and open grounds in the country. The people offered joint supplications for the welfare of the Muslim Ummah and peace, progress, and prosperity in Pakistan and the region.
During their sermons, religious scholars pondered on the timeless legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and Prophet Ismail (AS), focusing on patience, harmony, and spiritual strength in trials.
The Qurbani tradition is also being celebrated across the country, with families and communities sacrificing animals to commemorate the unflinching submission demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (AS).
Those who provide sacrifice are encouraged to share the meat freely with the poor, emphasizing the fact that Eid is a time for sharing, charity, and collective blessings.
Eid Prayers
The grand Eid prayer was held at Faisal Mosque in Islamabad, where Dr. Muhammad Ilyas performed the prayers. Most often, he devoted, including children and women belonging to the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, gathered for the spiritually rich reunion.
In Lahore, thousands performed Eid prayers at landmark places, such as Data Darbar, Minar-e-Pakistan, Jamia Naeemiyah, and Mansoora.
Religious scholar Mufti Ramzan Sialvi was the chief prayer leader at the Data Darbar Mosque, whereas Allama Ibtisam Elahi Zaheer was the chief prayer leader at Greater Iqbal Park, where a high turnout of citizens was observed.
Security Measures during Eid-ul-Adha
Additionally, tough security measures have been imposed by federal and provincial governments, particularly in urban areas and sites with large gatherings.
Local governments have also facilitated efficient waste management activities for the three days of Eid, re-emphasizing both civic sense and community ethos.
PM Shehbaz Special Message on Eid-ul-Adha
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, in a wide-ranging Eid message, congratulated the country and the Islamic world on the blessed occasion, stating: “The message of Eid ul Adha transcends animal sacrifice. It exhorts us to sacrifice personal interests for great national objectives.”
He reiterated that the history of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and Prophet Ismail (AS) comes with the lesson of sacrifice, obedience, and devotion as the pillars of a strong and cohesive society.
He added, “The spirit of Eid ul Adha gives us values of patience, courage, and benevolence which can be the basis for national development.” Looking back at recent frictions with India, he stated, “Just as the nation came together against aggression, we now need to remain firm in surmounting our internal challenges.”
The prime minister also referred to the people of occupied Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. “We should never forget our Palestinian and Kashmiri brethren who are still suffering so much hardship.
Pakistan stands in solidarity with them in their legitimate causes,” he added. He urged national unity, civic duty, and putting collective benefit ahead of personal benefit to achieve the dream of a robust, self-sustaining Pakistan.
President Zardari’s Message to the Muslim Ummah
President Asif Ali Zardari also sent warmest greetings to the countryand the Muslim Ummah. In his message, he emphasized that Eid ul Adha rekindles the eternal values of faith, sacrifice, and brotherhood demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and Prophet Ismail (AS).
“This day reminds us that no sacrifice is too great in the path of Allah,”he said.
He emphasized that the ideology of Eid should be brought to life in day-to-day life —not in ritual, but in action. “It is essential we help the poor, take care of the ill, and create a compassionate society,” he said.
He further called upon people to “purify hearts of hate and intolerance, and work in good faith for Pakistan’s prosperity.”
President Zardari underlined the imperative of collective action in overcoming economic challenges and reiterated the nation’s devotionto the well-being of the Muslim Ummah. “Together, we can create a Pakistan characterized by unity, mutual respect, and collectiveprogress,” he said.
Pak Army wishes warm Eid-ul-Adha
In a separate message, Field Marshal and Chief of Army Staff Syed Asim Munir, chairman joint chiefs of staff committee, the chief of naval staff, and the chief of air staff also sent warm Eid ul Adha wishes to the people of Pakistan in a joint message.
The highest military commanders extended their deepest prayers for enduring peace, national harmony, and the prosperity of the country, said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
They also paid respect to the resolve of the people of Pakistan and the valour and sacrifices of the troops, police, Rangers, and civilians who continue to guard the nation.
“Eid ul Adha is a holy period for contemplation, sacrifice, and harmony,” read the ISPR release.
“May this divine occasion bring harmony throughout our society and strengthen the spirit of unity that unites us as one unconquerable nation.”
The forces reaffirmed their resolve to stand by the people and defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan with determination.
The statement said, “The Pakistan Armed Forces stand resolutely with the people, united in purpose and steadfast in their sacred duty to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.”
“On this day of respect, we also pay tribute to the noble families of Shuhada-e-Pakistan, whose relatives gave the greatest sacrifice in the cause of peace and the country,” it further said.
The message ended with an expression of patriotism: “Pakistan Hameesha Zindabad” — long live Pakistan.
Special Eid programmes will be broadcast on state and private media, and newspapers will bring out special Eid supplements that outline the spiritual and social importance of the day in today’s geopolitics.
