U.S. Embassy Celebrates 249th Independence Day, Highlights Strong Pakistan-US Partnership. The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad hosted a grand celebration of the 249th anniversary of the United States’ Declaration of Independence, with Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker delivering a heartfelt address to a distinguished audience including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister, federal ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, and other dignitaries.
In her remarks, Baker warmly welcomed guests in both English and Urdu, expressing gratitude for Pakistan’s enduring friendship and partnership with the United States. Reflecting on her second diplomatic tenure in Islamabad, she praised Pakistan’s rich culture, hospitality, and the growing depth of bilateral relations.
Highlighting the foundational values behind America’s Independence Day—liberty, equality, self-government, and the pursuit of happiness—Baker emphasized how these ideals underpin the longstanding partnership between the U.S. and Pakistan since 1947. She outlined key areas of cooperation including education, health, economic development, and disaster relief, noting the significant role of USAID in improving the lives of millions across Pakistan.
The Chargé d’Affaires also underscored the strong security and defense collaboration between the two countries, applauding the military’s joint efforts in counterterrorism, regional stability, and humanitarian response. She highlighted Pakistan’s recent extradition of the ISIS-K terrorist as a milestone in shared counterterrorism success.
On the economic front, Baker welcomed new initiatives such as the Pakistan Critical Minerals Investment Forum and applauded Pakistan’s leadership in technology, digital markets, and innovation, signaling promising prospects for bilateral trade and investment.
Diplomatic achievements were not overlooked, with Baker praising Pakistan and U.S. collaboration in facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India, underscoring the importance of peace and mutual cooperation in South Asia.
The event also celebrated American culture with food, music, and a special performance by the United States Air Force band, creating a festive atmosphere of friendship and cultural exchange. Baker expressed appreciation for sponsors, organizers, and U.S. Mission staff, especially those away from home on the holiday.
In closing, she reaffirmed the commitment to a future of mutual strength and prosperity between the United States and Pakistan, quoting former President Trump: “our relationship is great—and the best is yet to come.”
