Pakistan Weather Update: Severe Heatwave Alert Issued for May 2025. A heatwave is likely in most parts of the country from today to May 20, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast.
A high-pressure system is likely to prevail in the region from May 15, due to which the daytime temperatures will increase significantly in the southern and northern parts of the country.
The southern regions, including Sindh, southern Punjab and Balochistan, are likely to experience temperatures 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal from May 15 to 20.
Meanwhile, the northern regions such as central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan will experience temperatures 5 to 7 degrees Celsius above normal from May 15 to 19.
The Meteorological Department said that there may be relief from the intense heat as a western weather system is likely to enter the upper regions of the country on the evening of May 19.
This system is expected to bring isolated heavy rains and hailstorms with chances of hailstorms over Kashmir, Islamabad, Potohar region, North East Punjab, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan on May 19 and 20.
The PMD has advised the public, especially children, women and senior citizens, to avoid direct sunlight during the day and stay well hydrated.
Farmers should plan their agricultural activities accordingly and ensure the welfare of livestock.
In the northern regions, rising temperatures may accelerate the rate of snowmelt, raising concerns about water management. Citizens are encouraged to practice judicious water use in all sectors.
