Touching upon trade ties, she shared that bilateral trade between the UK and Pakistan currently stands at £4.4 billion, with an ambitious target to increase it to £10 billion in the near future.
“The UK is already investing across vital sectors in Pakistan, including health, education, and engineering,” Marriott said. She pointed to Pakistan’s youthful population as a key strength, adding, “With mutual collaboration, Pakistan’s economy has the potential to reach $2 trillion.”
She praised Pakistan’s recent economic reforms, which she said have received recognition from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). “The UK commends these reforms and is ready to support further progress,” she added.
Marriott also revealed the UK’s ongoing $45 million macroeconomic reform program in Pakistan and its investments in clean and green energy initiatives within the power sector. She underscored UK-Pakistan cooperation in major engineering projects, such as the Reko Diq mining project, and reaffirmed British support in addressing climate change.
