Punjab to Empower Children with Reporting Knowledge on Inappropriate Behavior
Punjab to Introduce “Good Touch, Bad Touch” Awareness in Schools. The Punjab Home Department has issued a directive to include “Good Touch, Bad Touch” awareness in the school curriculum as part of efforts to curb incidents of child abuse across the province.
In an official communication to the School Education Department, provincial authorities stressed the need to include personal safety education in elementary classroom instruction. The directive specifically calls for age-appropriate content that teaches children to identify appropriate and inappropriate physical contact.
“Teaching children about personal safety has become a necessity in today’s environment,” the official correspondence said. The document outlines a plan to develop modules that explain physical boundaries in a manner appropriate for young students.
The initiative will focus on empowering children with knowledge of reporting procedures for inappropriate behavior, both at home and in public places. Education authorities have been directed to work with child protection experts to develop appropriate teaching materials.
“Children who experience sexual abuse can suffer lifelong trauma,” the communication noted, highlighting the preventive nature of educational interventions. The Department of Home Affairs stressed that children should not be taught to fear potential abusers but to expose such individuals.
According to provincial officials, this addition to the curriculum represents a preventive measure designed to protect vulnerable children. The Department of Home Affairs is simultaneously running a broader awareness campaign through the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau, focusing on the concept of “good touch, bad touch.”
