BCCI had reportedly objected to having “Pakistan” listed on their team’s jersey for the event.
ICC rejects BCCI’s request to remove ‘Pakistan’ from India’s kits. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken a strong stance on the upcoming Champions Trophy, slated to be held in Pakistan later this year, in response to India’s request to remove the host nation’s name from the tournament’s logo. The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) had reportedly objected to having “Pakistan” listed on their team’s jersey for the event.
ICC sources have unequivocally stated that all participating teams in the Champions Trophy must display the tournament logo along with the name of the host country on their jerseys. In a stern statement, the ICC made it clear that any team failing to comply with this requirement would face severe action.
This clarification comes after reports that the BCCI had raised concerns about the inclusion of “Pakistan” on India’s team jersey. The board had previously objected to playing in Pakistan, citing security concerns, leading to the tournament being moved to a hybrid model by the ICC. Under this arrangement, Pakistan insisted that if the Indian team failed to travel, the same model should be applied to future events.
The BCCI’s attempts to create controversy over this issue are not new, as the board had previously tried to disrupt the Asia Cup by challenging the inclusion of the host country’s name on the event’s logo. However, the Asian Cricket Council had ultimately granted approval to remove the host name.
This latest episode reinforces the tension between the two cricketing giants, with Pakistan standing firm on its right to host international events on its own soil, while India continues to push for adjustments to tournament norms.
