Gwadar airport becomes operational as inaugural flight lands. The Gwadar International Airport has become functional today (Monday) with the first flight from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) landed on the runway, inaugurating the newly-built facility.
The PIA flight PK-503, from Karachi, landed at the airport at 11:14 am, commencing operations at New Gwadar International Airport.
The first-ever flight received a water salute from the water browsers upon landing.
According to the PIA flight schedule, the flight departed from Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport at 10:00 am, instead of the scheduled time of departure (STD), which was 9:15 am.
In addition to passengers, high-ranking officials from the aviation division were also onboard the inaugural flight.
Minister for Defence and Aviation Khawaja Asif along with Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti, Balochistan Governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, and other high officials received the passengers at the new airport, where a brief ceremony was held.
The New Gwadar International Airport, covering 4,300 acres, is Pakistan’s largest airport. The airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang, during the latter’s visit to Pakistan in October.
