Electricity prices expected to decrease in January 2025. The Central Power Purchasing Authority (CPPA) has filed a request with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for a reduction in electricity prices by 63 paisa per unit.
NEPRA will hear the request for a reduction in electricity prices on December 31. CPPA says that 7.71 billion units of electricity were generated last month, with a production cost of Rs55.76 billion.
Electricity was generated from LNG at Rs23.2 per unit, while electricity was imported from Iran at Rs27.15 per unit.
The cost of generating electricity from coal was Rs14.92 per unit and electricity from nuclear sources was Rs1.73 per unit.

Last month, the government had increased electricity prices in Karachi, Pakistan and the entire country by 20 paisa per unit.
NEPRA has issued a notification saying that the 20 paise increase is part of the first quarter adjustment of the current financial year.
According to the notification, this increase will be applicable to electricity consumers across the country, including Karachi, which will impose an additional burden of Rs 2 on electricity consumers. 1.18 billion on consumers.
This adjustment will be effective for one month in December 2024, excluding Lifeline and prepaid electricity consumers. Similarly, the adjustment will not be applicable to additional electricity consumption under the winter package.
