Punjab govt announces new school timings amid improved air quality. Due to the improvement in air quality, the Punjab government, Pakistan has announced changes in the working hours of schools across the province, including Lahore.
From December 4, private and government schools will be allowed to start classes at 8:15 am, half an hour earlier than usual.
The Director General of the Environment Department, Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, issued an official notification in this regard. The decision will be applicable to all private and government schools across Punjab equally.
The adjustment is in line with the recent improvement in the Air Quality Index (AQI) across the region.
The Punjab government reopened schools in Lahore and Multan on November 20 after easing restrictions imposed due to dangerously high smog levels in Lahore and other cities of Punjab.
After being closed due to the cities’ air quality reaching dangerous levels, schools resumed classes in person. However, to ensure the health and safety of students and staff, some restrictions remain in place.
- School Timings: Schools will not open before 8:45 am.
- Mask Mandate: Students and teachers are required to wear masks throughout the school day.
- Ban on outdoor activities: All outdoor sports and co-curricular activities will be suspended.
