Pakistan’s Drug Regulatory Authority bans substandard batch of Nabaxo tablets. The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has imposed a ban on the sale and use of a specific batch of Nabaxo 10 mg tablets, citing serious quality concerns. The affected batch, batch number 263, was manufactured by Wenovo Pharmaceuticals in Taxila. Following testing by the Drug Testing Lab in Rawalpindi, the batch was found to be substandard and failed to meet the required quality control standards.
Nabaxo tablets, which contain the active ingredient Rivaroxaban, are used to prevent blood clots in conditions such as thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. The substandard quality of the affected batch raises concerns over the drug’s effectiveness in treating these serious conditions.
In response, DRAP has instructed Wenovo Pharmaceuticals to halt the supply of the problematic batch and recall it from the market. Chemists and distributors have been ordered to immediately cease sales of the batch and return all affected stock. DRAP has also issued a warning to doctors and patients to avoid using the contaminated tablets.
To prevent further circulation of substandard medicine, DRAP has ramped up market surveillance, tasking regulatory field forces with monitoring the situation closely and ensuring that counterfeit or defective versions of Nabaxo are not available. The regulatory body has called on distributors to report any remaining stocks of the affected batch.
This recall is part of DRAP’s ongoing efforts to protect public health and ensure the safety and efficacy of medicines in the market.
In a separate initiative, DRAP recently issued directives to provincial governments across Pakistan to crack down on illegal drugs and medical devices. This action follows revelations of unauthorized medicines and surgical instruments being used in hospitals. DRAP has instructed authorities to strengthen market surveillance and investigate the supply chain of illegal products.
