PTI calls off ‘final call’ protest following security forces’ grand operation. The leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) called off their highly anticipated protest, which began on November 24 in Islamabad, after the government launched a major operation to disperse the demonstrators, forcing senior party leaders to flee the scene.
The decision was made following a violent crackdown the previous night, which cleared key areas like D-Chowk and Blue Area in Islamabad. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Bushra Bibi, the wife of PTI founder Imran Khan, were among those who escaped the protest site.
In a statement released on Wednesday, a party spokesperson said, “Given the government’s brutal actions and its plans to turn the federal capital into a slaughterhouse for unarmed citizens, we are temporarily suspending our peaceful protest.”
The spokesperson condemned the alleged “killings” and the “terror and brutality” against peaceful protesters under the guise of an operation. PTI further stated that it would announce its next steps after receiving guidance from the imprisoned former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan. “The party’s political and core committees will review the government’s brutal actions, and the findings will be shared with PTI’s founder.”
The party also confirmed that dozens of innocent workers were killed by government forces, with the first reports indicating eight martyrs. The names of the victims mentioned include Anis Shehzad Satti, Malik Mubeen Aurangzeb, Abdul Qadir, Malik Safdar Ali, Ahmed Wali, Muhammad Ilyas, and Abdul Rashid.
The spokesperson urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo motu notice of the “brutal killings” and called for legal action against the Prime Minister, Interior Minister, and the Inspectors General of Islamabad and Punjab.
