PAKPAC expressed confidence that Trump is the candidate best positioned to enhance US-Pakistan relations and promote true democracy in Pakistan.
PAKPAC endorses Donald Trump in hopes of justice for Imran Khan. The Pakistani American Public Affairs Committee (PAKPAC), a prominent organization established in 1989 and registered with the Federal Election Commission, has officially endorsed Donald Trump for the 2024 US Presidential election. This decision comes after extensive discussions with both the Trump and Kamala Harris campaigns.
In a statement released on their official X page, PAKPAC expressed confidence that Trump is the candidate best positioned to enhance US-Pakistan relations and promote true democracy in Pakistan. “While we certainly do not agree with the former President on every issue, we believe his leadership can secure the release of all wrongfully imprisoned political prisoners in Pakistan and address the country’s troubling democratic backsliding,” the statement read.
During Trump’s presidency, PAKPAC noted that US-Pakistan relations were notably stronger, citing direct engagement between the Trump administration and Pakistani officials. The organization criticized the current Biden/Harris administration for a perceived lack of commitment to bilateral relations, asserting that the Pakistani government was pressured into a legislative coup against its democratically elected Prime Minister under Biden’s leadership.
“Under the Biden/Harris administration, no significant efforts have been made to secure the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and other political prisoners,” PAKPAC stated. The organization fears that similar policies may continue under a potential Harris presidency, which they believe could further strain relations between the two nations.
PAKPAC has been a vocal advocate for Imran Khan, lobbying for a thorough investigation into Pakistan’s electoral processes and condemning actions that suppress democratic participation in the country. Their endorsement of Trump highlights a strategic shift, reflecting hopes that a Republican administration might facilitate a more favorable environment for Pakistani democracy and human rights.
As the 2024 election approaches, PAKPAC’s endorsement underscores a growing sentiment among some Pakistani Americans who believe that Trump’s presidency could lead to a more proactive and supportive US policy toward Pakistan.
