Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s cabinet on Friday approved the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Amendment Ordinance 2024.
President Zardari promulgates SC Practice and Procedure Amendment Ordinance. President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari on Friday signed the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Amendment Ordinance 2024 into law to ensure the disposal of cases on their due turn and transparency.
The government has added two new sections 7A and 7B into the SC Practice and Procedure laws.
The Section 7A states, “Unless a transparent criteria is already mentioned or the applicable law requires a decision within the stipulated time, every cause, matter or appeal in the Supreme Court shall be heard at its turn based on first in, first out, that is to say, the cases filed first shall be heard first. Any Bench hearing a case out of its turn shall record its reasons for doing so”.
The section 7B states, “Recording and transcript of proceedings, hearing of every cause, matter or appear in Supreme Court shall be recorded a transcript thereof duly prepared. Such recordings and transcripts shall be made available to the public”.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s cabinet on Friday approved the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Amendment Ordinance 2024.
The federal cabinet members gave nod for the ordinance through a circulation after it was sent by the Ministry of Law to the prime minister and his cabinet last night.
The ordinance stated that the apex court bench would take up cases keeping in view the fundamental human rights and public importance.
It added that the cases will be heard on their turn otherwise reason will be provided for taking up any case out of turn.
“Each case and appeal will be recorded and its transcript will be prepared, which will be available to the public,” local media reported.
