Kashmiris reject elections in IIOJK amid military pressure, demand true freedom: Mushaal. Mushaal Hussein Mullick, the wife of incarcerated Kashmiri leader Mohammad Yasin Malik, has called for a boycott of upcoming elections in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), labeling them as a “farcical” exercise under the oppressive shadow of military force.
In a video message, Mullick emphasized that the people of Kashmir are demanding genuine freedom and a fair plebiscite, as outlined in United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.
Mullick, who also chairs the Peace and Culture Organisation, criticized the electoral process as a mere facade that fails to represent the true aspirations of the Kashmiri people. “These fraudulent elections are not a substitute for freedom,” she asserted, reiterating the community’s long-standing call for the right to self-determination.
Highlighting the ongoing struggle against Indian occupation, she stated, “Kashmiris are fighting for their legitimate rights. We reject any form of representation that does not stem from the true will of the people.” Mullick accused the Indian government of perpetuating its hold on the region through coercive tactics, further entrenching its status quo.
In her challenge to India, she urged the government to release prominent Hurriyat leaders, including Malik, Shabir Shah, Musarat Aalam, and Asiya Andrabi, arguing that true representatives of the Kashmiri populace are currently imprisoned. “If India truly sees itself as a champion of democracy, it must allow these leaders to engage with their people and facilitate a legitimate plebiscite,” Mullick asserted.
Concluding her message, she affirmed that the Kashmiri struggle is one of liberation and self-determination. “We are boycotting these elections because they do not represent our fight for freedom,” she declared, emphasizing the unity and resilience of the Kashmiri people in their quest for independence.
As tensions rise and the call for a genuine political dialogue intensifies, the international community is urged to pay closer attention to the ongoing situation in Kashmir.
