KARACHI: Karachi has experienced a significant surge in criminal activities during the first seven months of this year, with over 44,000 incidents reported, according to a Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) report released on Sunday.
Among these, more than 31,000 motorcycles were either stolen or snatched, and over 1,000 cars were taken from their owners.
The report also highlighted that over 11,000 mobile phones were forcibly seized from citizens during this period. January recorded the highest crime rate with 7,815 incidents, while June saw a reduction, with 4,954 cases reported.

Moreover, 12 cases of kidnapping for ransom and 57 incidents of extortion were recorded by July 2024. The recovery of stolen items remains worryingly low, with only 123 out of 11,000 stolen mobile phones recovered and just 1,066 of the 31,000 stolen motorcycles retrieved.
