Mushaal Criticizes Modi’s Citizenship Amendment Act.
Mushaal Mullick Denounces Modi’s CAA as Fuel for Hindutva Communal Agenda. Former Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Human Rights and Women Empowerment Mushaal Hussein Mullick has strongly criticized the Modi-led Indian government’s plans to implement the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
The CAA, passed in December 2019, has sparked concerns due to its potential impact on the Muslim population of India. Mushaal, who is the wife of senior Hurriyat leader Yasin Malik, has raised alarms about the dangers posed by the enforcement of this law, especially in the context of upcoming elections in India.
Expressing her concerns, Mushaal emphasized that the implementation of the CAA could jeopardize the lives of millions of Muslims in India. She condemned the BJP government’s decision to enforce the law as part of a larger Hindutva communal agenda, aiming to disenfranchise Muslims for political gains. Mushaal warned that this move could further fuel communal tensions and destabilize the region, potentially leading to increased oppression against Indian Muslims.
Mushaal highlighted the discriminatory nature of the CAA, which selectively grants citizenship to non-Muslim migrants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. She argued that this arbitrary categorization undermines the constitutional rights of Indian Muslims and exacerbates their existing challenges. Calling attention to the Citizenship Amendment Rules, 2024, Mushaal denounced them as unfair and discriminatory.
