U.S officials says United States will launch new trade talks with Taiwan.
China “firmly” opposes the launch of the U.S.-Taiwan Initiative on 21st Century Trade, the commerce ministry said on Thursday. While adding that the Chinese government has opposed any form of official contact between Taiwan and other countries.
“The United States should prudently handle trade and economic ties with Taiwan to avoid sending a wrong message to Taiwan separatists,” the ministry spokesman, Gao Feng, told an online briefing. The United States will launch new trade talks with Taiwan, U.S. officials said on Wednesday.
It is pertinent to mention that China is a large economy. In the previous few decades, the Chinese economy has grown at a huge rate, propelling the country to the world’s second-largest economy. China ranked ninth in the nominal gross domestic product (GDP) with USD 214 billion in 1978 when it began its economic reforms; 35 years later, it jumped to second place with a nominal GDP of USD 9.2 trillion. China also has long list of billionaires trending at second in the world, only behind the United States. Thus, the apparent US-China rift could be troublesome for the global economy.
