Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor recently shared kind words about her co-star Fawad Khan during the first major promotional event for their upcoming film Abir Gulaal. The event took place at Dubai’s Global Village and was attended by the full cast and crew along with many fans, especially from the overseas Pakistani community.
Vaani Praises Fawad
Speaking at the event, Vaani Kapoor described Fawad as a true gentleman. She said he is well-mannered, cooperative, and working with him was a wonderful experience. When asked to sum him up in one word, she smiled and said, “Fawad is very charming and truly made for the big screen.” She even called him her favorite co-star.
Abir Gulaal, which stars Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor in lead roles, is set to be released in cinemas worldwide on May 9, 2025. The film has already caught public attention, not just for its star cast but also for the controversy surrounding the involvement of Pakistani artists in Indian films.
Due to expected criticism in India, especially from political groups like Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), the filmmakers chose Dubai as a neutral and welcoming location for the music launch. MNS has strongly opposed the film’s release, warning that they will not allow any movie featuring Pakistani actors to be shown in Maharashtra.
This resistance stems from ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan and the informal ban on Pakistani artists that followed the 2016 Uri attacks. While the Bombay High Court ruled in 2023 that there should be no complete ban on Pakistani actors, some groups in India still oppose their participation.
Despite this, the team behind Abir Gulaal is moving forward with confidence. Director Aarti S. Bagdi and composer Amit Trivedi are standing by the film and its message. The music, especially the title track Khudaya Ishq sung by Arijit Singh and Shilpa Rao, has already been released and is gaining popularity.
