CJ Umar Bandial advised the government to appoint a Chairman NAB who was respectable and had a good repute. “Hopefully, the government will carefully appoint the NAB chairman,” Justice Umar Ata Bandial said. He said this while hearing a suo moto case pertaining to the government’s interference in high-profile cases related to political personalities.
Pakistan is facing severe economic crisis for the last few months. The government has announced cut in fuel quote for cabinet members. Moreover, the KP, Sindh governments also announced cutting fuel quota for government employees. Thus, the debate of managing the financial crunch continue as usual.
A five-member bench headed by the chief justice is hearing the case. Attorney-General of Pakistan (AGP) Ashtar Ausaf was presenting arguments on behalf of the government in the case. The SC said the government should maintain good governance by making the appointment under transparency.
Nobody should be provided an unnecessary benefit in NAB chairman’s appointment neither a foreign party should have an involvement in the process of appointment, the CJP remarked. The hearing has been adjourned till June 14. IT may be noted that the office holds immense importance in Pakistan due to its recent meddling in the high profile political cases.
