ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Masood Khan sought small arms and modern equipment to ensure the success of Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, aimed to eliminate terrorism and extremism.
Speaking at the Wilson Center’s South Asia Institute in Washington, DC, Ambassador Masood stated that Pakistan has launched Operation Azm-e-Istehkam to curb terrorist networks in the country. For that, he urged Pakistan’s need for sophisticated small arms and communication equipment.
Pakistani envoy stressed the robust Islamabad-Washington security ties, urging strong security links, enhanced intelligence cooperation, and the resumption of sales of advanced military equipment between both nations.
“This is crucial for regional security and opposing the rising tide of terrorism that also threatens the interests of the US and its allies,” he added.
While speaking to the forum, Pakistan’s envoy emphasized that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assured that it would not be a large-scale military operation and that local people would not be displaced.

Moreover, he proposed that the US should collaborate with Pakistan for a diplomatic solution in Kabul, focusing on counterterrorism and women’s rights in Afghanistan.
