All cases related to social media and apps across the country will now come under the jurisdiction of NCCIA
ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Friday established the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency (NCCIA), rendering the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cybercrime Wing as “defunct”.
According to a notification issued by the government, the newly formed body called the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) will function under Section 29 of the NCCIA Act, empowering it to exercise certain powers.
Under this act, the FIA will no longer handle matters related to the NCCIA, including officers, cases, inquiries and investigations.
Additionally, the government has appointed Director General (DG) of NCCIA for a two-year term. The DG Police will exercise powers under the Police Order 2002, the Ministry of Home Affairs will oversee the affairs of the NCCIA.
The notification clarified that the NCCIA will establish its offices across the country and provide specialized training to its officers in cybercrime cases.

Moreover, all cases related to social media and apps across the country will now come under the jurisdiction of NCCIA.
Furthermore, the NCCIA will serve as the designated agency for international cooperation in cybercrime matters. All cases related to cybercrime will be referred to the NCCIA for investigation and prosecution.
