Nationwide By-Elections & Senate Elections Set to Enrich Pakistan’s Democratic Process
By-Polls Set for 22 Assembly Seats on April 21. Pakistan gears up for a significant democratic exercise as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) finalizes arrangements for both by-elections and Senate elections.
On April 21, by-elections will be conducted on 22 seats across the national and provincial assemblies. The National Assembly will witness contests on five seats, while the Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Sindh assemblies will host elections on 12, two, two, and one seat respectively.
Simultaneously, on April 2, the country will witness nationwide Senate elections, marking a crucial step in the democratic process. Polling will occur in the National Assembly and all four provincial assemblies from 9 AM to 4 PM.
In preparation for the Senate elections, the ECP has taken comprehensive steps. Ballot papers in distinct colors have been printed to differentiate between general, technocrat, women, and minority seats, facilitating a smooth and organized voting process.

Furthermore, the transportation of election materials to returning officers has been successfully completed, ensuring the efficiency and integrity of the electoral process. Returning officers have issued the final list of candidates vying for the 48 vacant Senate seats, comprising 29 general seats, eight seats for women, nine seats for technocrats/Ulema, and two seats for non-Muslims.
