FBR & FMU join hands to fight tax crimes. A two-day workshop on financial intelligence for tax evasion concluded on Sunday at the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) headquarters, where FBR and Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU) officials discussed the identification and understanding of risk areas for tax crimes.

The workshop, organized with the assistance of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO)’s UPSCALE Programme, aimed to enhance the collaboration and coordination between FBR and FMU for developing and utilizing quality financial intelligence on tax evasion.

FBR Chairman Malik Amjed Zubair Tiwana, who presided over the concluding session, stressed the need for continued cooperation between the two agencies to achieve the common goal of combating illicit finance. He congratulated the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation-Inland Revenue and the FMU for holding the successful event and expressed his desire for further strengthening of this partnership.

Tiwana also thanked Lewis Evans of the British High Commission, who was present at the occasion, for providing support in organizing the workshop.

FMU Director General Lubna Farooq also appreciated the role of FBR and FCDO and highlighted the importance of sustained coordination between FBR and FMU for improving the knowledge base and mutual understanding for fighting tax fraud and tax evasion. She said that this collaborative approach would increase the effectiveness of investigations and contribute to a more robust and interconnected framework for combating financial crimes.

The workshop was attended by the analysts of FMU and the investigating officers of the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation-Inland Revenue.
