Caretaker Government Distances Itself from Nomination Papers Approval Process, Emphasizes Electoral Independence
ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Minister for Information, Broadcasting, and Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi unequivocally clarified on Saturday that the government plays no role in determining the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers for aspiring candidates in the upcoming general elections.
Speaking on a private media television talk show, Minister Solangi dismissed any connection between the caretaker government and the decision-making process regarding nomination papers, emphasizing that this falls squarely within the domain of the constitutional process overseen by the Election Commission.
“The caretaker government is steadfast in its commitment to support the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) by providing both financial and administrative assistance for the upcoming elections,” he stated.
Highlighting the financial support extended, Minister Solangi revealed that Rs17.4 billion had been released to the Election Commission, in addition to the Rs10 billion disbursed earlier, to ensure the smooth conduct of the electoral process.
Responding to a question, he underlined that constitutional bodies are operating within their defined limits. He affirmed that all registered political parties, including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), are receiving fair coverage on national broadcasters in line with editorial policies.
Discussing recent developments, Minister Solangi addressed the resolution of issues with Baloch protesters, leading to the release of women, children, and male individuals in phases. He reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding the right to peaceful protest while emphasizing that activities such as road blockades, entering restricted zones, attacking law enforcement, and stone-throwing are not acceptable in the name of peaceful protests.
