PTCL’s Acquisition of Telenor Pakistan was under review by the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) in its Second Phase.
CCP approves acquisition of Telenor by PTCL as a landmark development for Pakistan’s corporate sector. In an official statement, PTCL group shared its gratitude to the CCP. It states that PTCL is grateful to the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) for successfully concluding Phase II of the review of its acquisition of Telenor Pakistan. The deal was long in the making and its delay was causing serious challenges for 5G Rollout and Spectrum Auction in Pakistan.
“We highly appreciate the Commission’s thoroughness in safeguarding the future outlook and long-term sustainability of Pakistan’s telecom sector. We are especially thankful to our customers, partners, and the wider telecom community who have been eagerly looking forward to this historic announcement,” shares the statement.
As the acquisition moves forward, it might be interesting that Telenor Microfinance Bank Achieved Record PKR 2.6 billion Profit; it was reported in August 2024.
PTCL is one of the largest internet services provider in Pakistan. As Pakistan Surpassed 200 Million Telecom Subscribers in June 2025, PTCL was a major network service provider. On the other hand, Telenor entered Pakistan in March 2005. However, the political turmoil in Pakistan had severely harsh impact on the country’s economy. Resultantly, several international brands chose to repatriate their investments out of Pakistan. Telenor’s exit from Pakistan is based on the similar situation.
In the process for acquisition, PTCL fully cooperated with the Commission throughout the review process. Moreover, PTCL also remains committed to advancing the acquisition in complete alignment with the directions of all regulatory bodies on this matter, along with necessary compliances to the applicable laws of the country.
This intra-sector consolidation is a pivotal step forward for Pakistan’s telecom industry. It will draw strengths from both PTML (Ufone) and Telenor to deliver best in class customer experience, enhanced network quality, broader coverage, and innovative digital services for their customer base. It will enable the sector to achieve greater efficiency, resilient infrastructure, and a more competitive landscape.
Moreover, the consolidated entity will strengthen nationwide connectivity, drive innovation, and support the government’s vision of a digitally empowered Pakistan.
