Thunder Showers Expected in Coming Days with Heavy Rain

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a comprehensive weather advisory highlighting thunder showers expected in coming days across the country, particularly from July 27 to July 31, as a new spell of intensified monsoon activity prepares to hit the region.

According to the Met Office, weak monsoon currents are already penetrating the upper and central parts of Pakistan, and these are forecasted to intensify from July 28. Additionally, a westerly wave is expected to enter the country on July 29, which will further enhance the chances of heavy rainfall and thundershowers in several provinces.

Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan to Witness Heavy Showers

The PMD has predicted rain-wind/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls in various parts of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, including:

  • Neelum Valley
  • Muzaffarabad
  • Rawalakot
  • Poonch
  • Hattian
  • Bagh
  • Haveli
  • Sudhanoti
  • Kotli
  • Bhimber
  • Mirpur

These conditions are expected to persist from July 27 to July 31, with occasional breaks.

Similarly, Gilgit-Baltistan is likely to see widespread thunderstorm activity in:

  • Diamir
  • Astore
  • Ghizer
  • Skardu
  • Hunza
  • Gilgit
  • Ghanche
  • Shigar

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Braces for Widespread Rains

From July 28 to July 31, various districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will experience moderate to heavy thundershowers, including:

  • Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram
  • Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand
  • Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram
  • Kohat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi
  • Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat
  • Waziristan, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan

Authorities in hilly areas have been urged to remain alert due to the risk of landslides and flash flooding.

Central and Northern Punjab, Including Islamabad, Set for Intense Rain

Rain-wind/thundershowers with scattered heavy falls are expected across the Islamabad Capital Territory and various districts of Punjab from July 28 to July 31, including:

  • Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum
  • Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad
  • Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Kasur, Okara
  • Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Chiniot
  • Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khanewal

Southern districts such as Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Vehari, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Layyah, Bhakkar, Rajanpur, D.G. Khan, Pakpattan, Kot Addu and Rahim Yar Khan will also be affected, especially between July 29 and 31.

Balochistan to Receive Rains in Southern and Northeastern Areas

From July 29 (night) to July 31, the PMD forecasts rain-wind/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls in:

  • Barkhan, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibi, Harnai
  • Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Lasbella, Awaran, Khuzdar
  • Quetta, Zhob, Qilla Saifullah, Qilla Abdullah
  • Ziarat, Kalat, Sherani

The terrain and poor infrastructure in these regions increase the risk of flash floods and mudslides, prompting local authorities to remain vigilant.

Sindh to Remain Mostly Hot, with Showers in Select Areas

While hot and humid weather will dominate most parts of Sindh, a few districts will receive rain-wind/thundershowers on July 30 and 31, including:

  • Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mithi, Mirpurkhas
  • Khairpur, Dadu, Sanghar, Jacobabad
  • Kashmore, Sukkur, Ghotki, Larkana

Urban centers like Karachi and Hyderabad are expected to remain dry but humid, although occasional drizzle or isolated showers cannot be ruled out.

PMD Issues Safety Advisory

The Met Office has advised local governments and disaster management authorities to remain on high alert during this spell. In a public statement, the PMD urged citizens to:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain
  • Stay away from riverbanks and low-lying areas
  • Secure rooftops and loose outdoor items
  • Keep emergency kits and contact numbers ready

Farmers have also been advised to plan irrigation and harvesting activities accordingly, especially in rain-prone regions.

Infrastructure and Rescue Preparedness

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) have started coordinating with district administrations to prepare for any emergency scenarios. Equipment such as water pumps, boats, and emergency kits are being pre-positioned in high-risk areas.
