England made a total of 823, which is the fourth highest total by a team in a test innings ever.
England declare historic innings after Brook dismissed. Saim Ayoub got a pair of wickets, including Harry Brook, in the 148th over before England declared an end to their historic innings right before the break on Thursday.
Ayoub got Brook out on the second ball of the over. In an attempt to hit a sweep, the ball clipped the top edge, and the English batter didn’t get the elevation he needed. The ball made its way into the Pakistan skipper’s hands, as Shan Masood took the catch. Before being dismissed, Brook made the first triple century by an England batter in 34 years. Atkinson was dismissed two balls later after Babar Azam took the catch.
It ended a historic innings for Brook, who scored 317 runs off 322 balls, hitting 29 fours and three sixes on his way. Brook is now tied for the 20th highest test score in an innings ever, with Chris Gayle, but did it in 162 less balls.
England made a total of 823, which is the fourth highest total by a team in a test innings ever. It is the highest total since Pakistan in 2009, when the national team made 765 runs against Sri Lanka. England also have the second and third highest scores, which they made against Australia in 1938 and West Indies in 1930 respectively.
England finally declared their innings after 150 overs, leading by 267 runs at the break.
