Punjab Police can no longer use social media on duty. Punjab’s Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has implemented a sweeping ban on social media use for on-duty police officers. The prohibition extends to popular platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
This decisive action follows a series of incidents where videos featuring Punjab police officers and female personnel gained viral attention across various social media channels.
In response to the Chief Minister’s directive, the Inspector General (IG) of the Punjab Police has issued a comprehensive social media usage policy for all officers and employees. The new guidelines come with a stern warning: personnel caught uploading videos while in uniform will face severe departmental consequences.
Following the Inspector General’s orders, the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Operations has outlined specific guidelines for the new social media policy. These rules stipulate that all social media activity must be approved by the District Police Officer (DPO) or the relevant unit head.
