Japan in the second minute of the last quarter scored an equalizer taking the scoreboard to 2-2.
IPOH: Japan defeated Pakistan 4:1 in the penalty shoot-out in the much-anticipated final match of Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia on Saturday.
During the match, both teams remained equal with two goals each. Later, the match was decided on penalty shoot-out which Japan managed to take lead in that.
In the first four penalty shoot-out attempts, Japan scored four consecutive goals while Pakistan’s captain Ammad Butt managed to score only one goal.

During the first quarter, Pakistan lagged behind Japan after the player scored an opener to clinch a 1-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Pakistan had a strong comeback during the third quarter as Ijaz Ahmed and Abdul Rehman scored one goal each.

Punjab govt announces cash reward for national hockey team
The Punjab government has announced a reward of Rs. 2 million for the national hockey team, here on Saturday.
Punjab Sports Minister Faisal Khokhar announced a prize of 20 lakh rupees while appreciating the excellent performance of the national team in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup on social media.
The minister praised the team’s passion, enthusiasm and hard work which led to the team securing second position in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. He appreciated the excellent performance of Pakistan in the final match.
Faisal Khokhar remarked that the national team has once again raised the Pakistani flag on the international stage, the Punjab government will take all possible measures to promote national sports.
It should be noted that Japan defeated Pakistan in the final of the 30th Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament. The final, held in Ipoh, Malaysia, ended in a 2-2 draw in the fourth quarter, leading to a penalty shootout. Japan won the penalty shootout 4-1 to win the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament title for the first time.
