Eid-ul-Fitr 2024: UAE govt announces holidays for private sector. The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced official holidays for the private sector employees across the country on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
The break will begin on Monday April 8 and last until 3 Shawwal (or the Gregorian equivalent).
According to the Islamic calendar, Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days, depending on when the moon is visible.
If Ramadan lasts 30 days: Eid-ul-Fitr is from Monday, April 8 (Ramadan 29) to Friday, April 12 (Shawwal 3). If you factor in the Saturday-Sunday weekend before and after the break, that’s a total of nine days off. Then the break is from Saturday, April 6, to Sunday, April 14.
If Ramadan lasts 29 days: If this happens, residents will get six days off, including weekends. The Eid holiday will be from Monday, April 8 (Ramadan 29) to Thursday, April 11. If you include the Saturday-Sunday weekend before the break, that’s a total of six days off. Then the break is from Saturday, April 6, to Thursday, April 11.
Earlier, the UAE Cabinet had announced that federal government employees will enjoy a nine-day break to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.
